I've found an injured animal. What should I do?

We can advise in most situations and will do our best to help. Please remember that we are staffed by volunteers.

Firstly, observe the circumstances and what has happened. Has the animal been involved in an accident? Are other animals attacking it? Does it appear ill and needy? Is it gasping? Can you see blood, mange or mites? Can it walk?

Call Wildlife in Need on 07734 047357 or use our contact form here. One of our volunteers will respond as soon as possible. Calls and emails are not monitored overnight.

Foxes

We do not rescue and rehab foxes directly ourselves, we refer cases to an expert partner. If you have located an injured or sick fox, please look at the RSPCA advice for more information: https://rspca.org.uk/adviceandwelfare/wildlife/foxes/injured or call our expert, Helen, on 07968 345216 and leave a message.

Hedgehogs

It is unusual to see an adult hedgehog during the daytime or in winter, so check that they are not ‘wobbly’, unwell or hungry. Abandoned or lost baby hoglets (which might be squawking) need immediate attention.

Wildlife in Need does not offer facilities for rehabilitating hedgehogs, however we are friends with several hedgehog rehabbers and might be able to recommend you.

Alternatively, contact the British Hedgehog Society who can help you to find a local foster organisation.
