For purposes of the Data Protection Act 1998, Wildlife in Need is the “data controller”.

 

The type of personal information we collect

We currently collect and process the following information:

  • Name and contact details including address, email address and phone number.

  • In the case of donations, amount donated and date of donation.

  • Financial information such as credit / debit card numbers (only temporary during your transaction).

  • IP address (automatically collected).

  • Web browser type and version (automatically collected).

  • Operating system (automatically collected).

  • A list of URLs starting with a referring site, your activity on this Website, and the site you exit to (automatically collected); in each case, in accordance with this privacy policy.

 

How we get the personal information and why we have it

The personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for one of the following reasons:

  • Enable us to contact you so that we can advise how to care for injured wildlife or to collect an injured bird or animal.

  • Enable us to contact you in connection with volunteering with our team.

  • In connection with an enquiry about donating funds, food or other goods and services.

  • Internal record keeping and the processing of marketing, fundraising or volunteering information materials.

We do not receive personal information about you indirectly, from third party sources.

We do not share information about you with third party individuals or organisations, unless we are required by law to do so.

We will collect information about you from web enquiries, Facebook enquiries and telephone enquiries.

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the lawful basis we rely on your consent for processing this information. You are able to remove your consent at any time. You can do this by contacting support@wildlifeinneed.co.uk.

 

How we store your personal information

Your information is securely stored with the principles of the Data Protection Act 1998. We keep personal information for 3 years. If we have not heard from you for a continuous period of 3 years, we will then securely dispose your information by deleting records in our contact database and destroying previous versions of the records database on the first working day of the year after the record lapsed.

We will keep a record of our relationship with you at the end of 3 years by retaining one record of your personal data in order that we can confirm that the relationship existed – and that it has ended – as well as some of its details.

 

Your data protection rights

Under data protection law, you have rights including:

Your right of access - You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.

Your right to rectification - You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.

Your right to erasure - You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to restriction of processing - You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to object to processing - You have the the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to data portability - You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

Wildlife in Need reserves the right to change this privacy policy as we may deem necessary from time to time or as may be required by law. Any changes will be immediately posted on the Website and you are deemed to have accepted the terms of the privacy policy on your first use of the Website following the alterations.
